Who Benefits from the $1,500 Energy Tax Credit?
- You, the homeowner, so you can reduce your home's energy consumption while increasing the efficiency of your heating and cooling systems.
- The home improvement industry, from the designers and manufacturers of energy efficient products to the companies install the products in your home - by creating jobs and mutually beneficial projects to bolster the economy.
- The environment, through reduction in the use of fossil fuels and foreign oil in the production of electricity to heat and cool our homes.
Homeowner's Eligibility to Take the Energy Tax Credit

- What you need to be aware of concerning the government's tax regulations to be eligible to participate in the tax credit program.

Energy tax credit can be applied to our product lines, we always encourage every homeowner to talk to their tax advisor. Your tax advisor can review your particular situation and let you know if you are eligible to take advantage of this particular
Energy tax credit. Remember, two of the primary considerations are:
- It only applies to your primary residence.
- A homeowner's tax credit cannot exceed his or her tax liability.
How to Apply
- File Tax Form 5695 with your tax return.

Tax Credit Amount
- 30% of the cost (not including installation and labor costs), up to $1,500.00
Effective Dates
- The tax credit is in effect for 2009 and 2010.
- The eligible product you purchase from Alpha Windows and Doors must be installed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.
Details on New Specification Requirements
- From January 1 - May 31, 2009, all ENERGY STAR approved windows and doors qualified for the credit.
- From June 1, 2009 - December 31, 2010, windows and doors must have a U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) less than or equal to 0.30. This is an extremely efficient product, and most ENERGY STAR items will not qualify. Once again, we will make sure you are aware of which products are eligible.
- You do not have to replace all the windows in your home to qualify.
How to Find Qualified Product Models
- Look for the U-factor and SHGC on the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) label.
- NFRC is the only federally recognized organization for determining the energy performance of windows, doors and skylights.
