Caming
Lead strips which bond small pieces of decorative glass in windows or doors.
Casement
A window sash which swings open on side hinges; in-swinging are French in origin while out-swinging are from England.
Casing
(Trim) - A wooden trim around doors and windows that covers seam between jamb and wall. It has a strong impact on the overall style, appearance, and proportion of door opening as well as the overall style of your home's interior. On the practical side, it conceals the gap between the door or window frame (called a jamb) and the rough opening and helps to hold the frame in the opening. Casing can be relatively plain such as square-edge design or detailed, such as colonial-style, French-style, Asian-style or Mexican-style molding.
Caulking
Mastic compound for filling joints and sealing cracks to prevent leakage of water and air; commonly made of silicone- bituminous- acrylic- or rubber-based materials.
Check rail
(Meeting rail) - (Lock rail) - The horizontal members (of a double/single-hung window) which come together.
Circle-head
(Circle top) - A generic term referring to any of a variety of window units with one or more curved frame members, often used over another window or door opening.
Cladding
Any material locked to the outside faces of doors and windows to provide a durable, low-maintenance exterior surface.
Clearstory
(also: High-light window) - A window in the upper part of the room that admits light to the center of the room.
Coated glass
A window or door glass with an outside surface provided with a mirror reflective surface; the shading coefficient ranges from 20% to 45%.
Colonial configuration
Window and door style in which vents or panels are divided into small sections (lites) by adding muntins.
Commercial standard
A voluntary set of rules and regulations covering quality of product (or installation), method of testing, rating of the product, certification, and labeling of manufactured products.
Commodity
Standard sizes developed for Florida Construction in accordance to block sizes. Most commonly used in the masonry trade.
Condensation
The deposit of water vapor from the air on any cold surface whose temperature is below the dew point, such as a window or door glass or frames that is exposed to cold outdoor air.
Condensation resistance factor
A measure of the effectiveness of a window/door or glazing system to reduce the potential for condensation. The higher the condensation resistance factor, the more efficient the window/door and glazing system.
Configuration
Describes the setup of panels or vents on windows and doors: For example: OX, XO, XOX or XX.
